New Blockcipher Modes of Operation with Beyond the Birthday Bound Security
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we define and analyze a new blockcipher mode of operation for encryption, CENC, which stands for Cipher-based ENCryption. CENC has the following advantages: (1) beyond the birthday bound security, (2) security proofs with the standard PRP assumption, (3) highly efficient, (4) single blockcipher key, (5) fully parallelizable, (6) allows precomputation of keystream, and (7) allows random access. CENC is based on the new construction of “from PRPs to PRF conversion,” which is of independent interest. Based on CENC and a universal hash-based MAC (Wegman-Carter MAC), we also define a new authenticated-encryption with associated-data scheme, CHM, which stands for CENC with Hash-based MAC. The security of CHM is also beyond the birthday bound. ∗An extended abstract of this paper appears in Fast Software Encryption, FSE 2006 [11]. This is the full version.

Tweakable Blockciphers with Beyond Birthday-Bound Security
Liskov, Rivest and Wagner formalized the tweakable blockcipher (TBC) primitive at CRYPTO’02. The typical recipe for instantiating a TBC is to start with a blockcipher, and then build up a construction that admits a tweak. Almost all such constructions enjoy provable security only to the birthday bound, and the one that does achieve security beyond the birthday bound (due to Minematsu) severely ...
متن کاملTweak-Length Extension for Tweakable Blockciphers
Tweakable blockcipher (TBC) is an extension of standard blockcipher introduced by Liskov, Rivest and Wagner in 2002. TBC is a versatile building block for efficient symmetric-key cryptographic functions, such as authenticated encryption. In this paper we study the problem of extending tweak of a given TBC of fixed-length tweak, which is a variant of popular problem of converting a blockcipher i...
متن کاملBlockcipher-based MACs: Beyond the Birthday Bound without Message Length
We present blockcipher-based MACs (Message Authentication Codes) that have beyond the birthday bound security without message length in the sense of PRF (Pseudo-Random Function) security. Achieving such security is important in constructing MACs using blockciphers with short block sizes (e.g., 64 bit). Luykx et al. (FSE 2016) proposed LightMAC, the first blockcipher-based MAC with such security...
متن کامل3kf9: Enhancing 3GPP-MAC beyond the Birthday Bound
Among various cryptographic schemes, CBC-based MACs belong to the few ones most widely used in practice. Such MACs iterate a blockcipher EK in the so called Cipher-Block-Chaining way, i.e. Ci = EK(Mi⊕Ci−1) , offering high efficiency in practical applications. In the paper, we propose a new deterministic variant of CBC-based MACs that is provably secure beyond the birthday bound. The new MAC 3kf...
متن کاملA New Variant of PMAC: Beyond the Birthday Bound
We propose a PMAC-type mode of operation that can be used as a highly secure MAC (Message Authentication Code) or PRF (Pseudo-Random Function). Our scheme is based on the assumption that the underlying n-bit blockcipher is a pseudo-random permutation. Our construction, which we call PMAC Plus, involves extensive modification to PMAC, requiring three blockcipher keys. The PMAC Plus algorithm is ...
